In a startling revelation, a significant data breach has been reported in the Indian educational sector, shedding light on the vulnerability of personal information of university applicants. The breach, which affects a substantial number of individuals, underscores the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures.
The breach was first brought to light by a threat actor known as “USDoD”, who claims to have gained access to an Indian system responsible for managing multiple universities across the country. The individual, who identifies as a member of the BF community, has disclosed the compromise of two extensive databases containing sensitive information.
The first database comprises a staggering 300,000 lines of data, presenting a concerning breach of privacy for countless individuals. The leaked information includes a range of personal details such as application numbers (APP_NO), registered application numbers (R_APPL_NO), login IDs, email addresses, mobile numbers, names, community affiliations, gender, phone numbers (PH), and even passwords.
